Fiona is a lawyer and criminologist, focused on finding humane, practical solutions to migrant smuggling and human trafficking.

With Dr Anne T Gallagher, Fiona is the co-author of The International Law of Migrant Smuggling, a book endorsed by experts including William T Swing, Director General of the International Organization for Migration, and François Crépeau, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants.

As Executive Director of Global Research at the Walk Free Foundation, Fiona leads research on modern slavery in 167 countries, including for the Global Slavery Index, a product endorsed by Hilary Clinton, Muhammad Yunus and Bill Gates.

Fiona had worked in many countries, from Libya to Myanmar.

Fiona is a Visiting Fellow at the Rights Beacon at the University of Nottingham in the UK. Fiona was previously a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for International and Public Law at the Australian National University.
