WALKFREE FOUNDATION INTERNATIONAL LAW OF MIGRANT SMUGGLING MODEL LEGISLATIVE PROVISIONS ON UNITED NATIONS CONVENTION AGAINST TRANSNATIONAL ORGANIZED CRIME
As Executive Director of Global Research at the Walk Free Foundation, Fiona leads the Foundation’s research on modern slavery in 167 countries. This includes survey and other field research for the Global Slavery Index, a research product endorsed by Hilary Clinton, Muhammad Yunus and Bill Gates. Fiona is co-author, with Dr Anne Gallagher, of the International Law of Migrant Smuggling, published by Cambridge University Press. Drawing on their experience working with the United Nations on migrant smuggling issues, this book examines the major legal obligations of States with respect to migrant smuggling. Fiona was engaged by the UN Office of Drugs and Crime in Vienna as the Principal Drafter of a set of Model Legislative Provisions to implement the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime. TRANSNATIONAL CRIMINAL LAW MODEL LAW AGAINST THE SMUGGLING OF MIGRANTS   ASIA REGIONAL TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS PROJECT
Fiona teaches Transnational Criminal Law, as part of the Masters of International Law program at the Australian National University. Click for more course information. Fiona was the Principal Drafter of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Model Law to implement the Protocol against the Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea and Air, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime.

The ARTIP project involved a $21 million commitment over 5 years with funding from AusAID. The focus of the project was on building more effective criminal justice responses to trafficking in persons in South East Asia. Fiona was the Research Coordinator for the project for four years.
